FARM HISTORY

Located on the high meadows of eastern Colorado, Phillips Pharms has entered our fifth generation of raising cattle.  It has always been our objective to raise quality beef, however it has at times been a frustrating process.  During the 70's and 80's, the introduction of new breeds seemed to occur at an accelerated pace.  To further complicated the process, the American consumer became much more health conscious during the same time and beef unfortunately found itself on the endangered species list in many American homes.  In the early 90's we found ourselves facing an uncomfortable decision, to either retire from the ranching business or renew our search for a beef breed that could compliment our ranching operation and satisfy the new tastes of consumers.  We chose the latter.  After dividing our commercial cow herd into numerous test groups, we artificially inseminated those cows by group to bulls of various breeds.  The results began to come in the next spring with the new calf crop and were completed 18 months later when the animals went to slaughter.  What we discovered is simple.  Calves sired by Belgian Blue bulls grow bigger and taste better.  We had found the breed we were looking for and set out to establish the best herd we could.

Our quest has not been without its share of difficulty, but we enter the new century with renewed enthusiasm.  It is our belief that Belgian Blue cattle will at a minimum make a significant impact on niche markets and branded segments in the beef industry.  Potentially the influence of Belgian blue could extend to all cattle in America.  Our optimism is based on this undeniable fact that no beef breed produces more consumable meat on a carcass than the Belgian blue.  Add to this the remarkable health qualities of the meat (reference our Meat Information section) and we have the ultimate beef animal for America and beyond.

We have available for your selection semen from our Champion bulls out of Champion bloodlines and embryos from cows selected for their superior performance and elite pedigree.  In addition, we offer seed stock bulls and heifers of show quality and top genetics as well as breeding bulls for the commercial cattleman.  We always have full blood beef for sale.
